Road to Wengen - Marco Kohler: A fighter from the Bernese Oberland

Winter sports fans know the fascination of the Lauberhorn downhill run - a course that impresses with both its beauty and its danger. For Swiss ski racer Marco Kohler, it is the scene of his greatest challenges.

In January 2020, Kohler crashed heavily as the lead skier in the infamous finishing S and suffered multiple injuries, including a complete cruciate ligament rupture. After months of rehab, he fought his way back and won the downhill classification in the European Cup, which enabled him to move up to the World Cup.

But Marco suffered another setback: In January 2024, almost exactly four years after his first accident, Kohler crashed again on the Lauberhorn downhill. This time, he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, torn medial meniscus and a pulled medial ligament in his right knee. This injury meant the premature end of the season for the athlete.

Now Kohler's battle to get back on the skis begins again. In rehab, he is working on his comeback with tireless determination. Intensive physiotherapy, targeted strength training and mental strength are the building blocks of his path back to the race track. Despite all the setbacks, he remains true to his goal: to be back at the start of the Lauberhorn race - and this time to conquer the course.

"Road to Wengen" takes you on this journey - full of dedication, pain and the irrepressible will to come back. A film about the courage to get up again and again - and the immeasurable passion for skiing.
